ARCHITECTS RESEARCH FOUNDATION

Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge was founded in 1961 by James Wright Hammond as a means to interpret clients' needs and desires through direct participation in all phases of the design and construction process. Thomas Beeby, Dennis Rupert and Gary Ainge continue this tradition with the belief that collaborative efforts between client and architect result in the finest buildings. The principals have always prided themselves in bringing the sophistication of a large firm to a more personal manner of practice.  The firm has established Architects Research Foundation, a non-profit organization to publish the Plan of Chicago book for the Burnham Plan Centennial.

Plans of Chicago

Architects Research Foundation

The illustrated book will assess the Plan's approach in light of Chicago’s persistent planning problems, comparing it to proposals by Frank Lloyd Wright, Jens Jensen, Walter Burley Griffin, Eliel Saarinen, and Ludwig Hilberseimer. This historical analysis is the point of departure for a new plan for managing Chicago’s future growth. The authors reframe the central city’s relationship to the larger Chicago area, proposing new designs for Grant Park and Congress Street and new planning models for urban neighborhoods and the suburbs.
